A national health agency faced challenges in managing and analysing public health data during outbreaks. Information from hospitals, testing labs, and vaccination centres was scattered across multiple systems, leading to delays in decision-making and resource allocation. This hindered the agency’s ability to respond effectively to health emergencies.
Our Approach
To address these challenges, a robust data services framework was implemented to centralize health data and provide real-time analytics for better public health management. We;
- Developed a centralized data lake using AWS Data Lake to consolidate data from hospitals, diagnostic labs, and vaccination centres. This ensured seamless access to high-quality public health information.
- Deployed Apache Kafka to process real-time data feeds from healthcare providers and public health surveys. This enabled dynamic tracking of outbreak trends and hotspots.
- Built predictive models using Databricks to forecast infection rates and hospitalization needs. This helped allocate resources such as ventilators, medications, and healthcare personnel effectively, and
- Created dashboards using Tableau to provide decision-makers with real-time views of case numbers, vaccination progress, and resource availability. This improved coordination across agencies.
